Info on this page about shows in 2007 by the poetry
performance groups I founded and the two open mics in the Charlotte area that
I organize.
June Show by
Perpendicular Poets and MPA:
Friday evening June 8, 8:00 pm. There
will be about 10 poets (men and women) in this show, which will be staged
from a back-yard deck. We’ll want you to bring a folding chair, and we’ll
provide refreshments.
Show will be held in a private home
near Park Road Shopping Center, Charlotte, North Carolina. Be in touch for
details. You won’t want to miss this informal and fun evening.

Perpendicular Poets are female, and MPA
is the name of the more-recently-formed men’s group. We write from our
hearts and souls and present our performances to small groups. I founded
the first group in 2000. Since then we’ve given many performances, and
each one has been a delightful experience for performers and audience.
The groups will do new shows in the
fall. And on occasional dates we perform in guest appearances for clubs,
art events, and others. (See my note at bottom of page about this.)
Open Mic: The 4th
Saturday of every month except December at Dilworth Playhouse Café, Charlotte,
NC 28203, 704-632-0336. All welcome. At 8:00 pm. Arrive early to sign up.
Read poetry, short fiction, humor or memoir. Practice your reading, and
be sure it’s no longer than about 4 1/2 minutes. Emcee is Tim Lalley, a
member of MPA Charlotte, the men’s performance poetry group that I coach.
Open Mic: The 2nd Tuesday
at Barnes and Noble Birkdale, Huntersville, NC. At 7:30. A featured
reader, and then your turn. Take the microphone and share your poem or
story or humor with us. This is a short event, since it’s a weeknight.
We’ll dismiss by about 8:40, so come on out. Teenagers and children
welcome. I am host for this session that is sponsored by Main Street Rag
Publishing.
Guest
Appearance Venues: I’m currently working with Perpendicular
Poets and MPA Charlotte. We love to do guest
appearances. We are not slam poets. I’d say we’re people who like to
write and find that we can write from our hearts and say what we really
feel in short writings that we edit for clarity and sound effect as we
rehearse together. You’ll like the variety in our performances. We’ve
appeared at Actors Scene Unseen (internet radio), a coffeehouse sponsored
by a local church, a writer’s club in a neighboring county, club meetings,
Central Piedmont Community College’s pre-Literary Festival kickoff, and
the Charlotte Art League. If you know of venues for our performances, please
let me know. Thanks! Barbara Lawing
