Creative Writing For Writers And Wannabe Writers 50+
10-11 AM and 1-2 PM Every Monday except holidays year round
At the Levine Jewish Community Center on Providence Road, Charlotte
These are offered by the Oasis Program at the J, open to people 50+ of any faith or race. This has been a successful venture since 1999 - a joy for me and all participants week after week. Fee is most reasonable because the classes are offered through Oasis, a nonprofit foundation.
Register through the JCC: Contact Jodie Iagnocco at 704-944-6753. A visit is free.
Poetry Hour
Mondays 11 AM - Noon
The Levine Jewish Community Center on Providence Road at Shalom Park
*Beginning in September
Open to anyone over 50. Write or not, your choice - as we discover or get reacquainted with the joys of poetry. We will share poems, read poems aloud, enjoy poetry. Those who wish to will try their hand at writing, so some instruction will be provided. Everyone will learn something of how to craft a poem as we look at how poets achieve the poems we like. As above, the class is not expensive because it is part of the programming offered through a nonprofit foundation.
Register through the JCC: Contact Jodie Iagnocco at 704-944-6753. A visit is free.

In a session we typically do at least 4 writings to prompts that are guaranteed to get the creative fires going. Then we read aloud if we wish. The sessions are always a delight, and we walk away happily with new writings tucked under our arms. You may use these sessions for making progress on whatever it is you wish to write, or discover what you want to write. Many of the scenes I've written for my in-progress novel have been done at these sessions. Such fun! Yippee and hurrah!
